Sometimes the numbers add up to something bigger than they appear.
This week, we celebrated an important milestone – our 200,000th suite under contract.
At Wyse, we know that each suite we meter represents a home. Hitting this milestone now, during a time when our homes have meant just a little bit more to each of us, reminds our team of the important role we play in so many lives.
But these numbers represent something more – opportunity.
We have long committed to embedding environment, social, and governance (ESG) principles in every aspect of our operations, from facilitating sustainable living environments, to helping reduce utility consumption and greenhouse gases, to offering the deepest possible data for decision-making, to our dedication to the communities in which we live and work.
As such, we see the COVID-19 pandemic as a call to action to further embed these principles. You might say that we have been warned to expect the unexpected.
We may not know what form the next pandemic could take, but we do know that a properly run building of tomorrow will have adequate stockpiles of personal protective equipment (PPE) and cleaning supplies on hand at all times, as well as clearly spelled out emergency policies and procedures around cleaning, deliveries, and building access ready to implement.
When it comes to climate change, we know a number of the challenges that await us. We have heard the warnings for years. Within our industry, key to our preparedness will be sustainable management of utilities, mainly energy and water, particularly as they relate to usage in our buildings. We might not know exactly what that looks like, but we have an idea thanks to the recent crisis.
If we learn anything from the last year, it is that while the future is unpredictable, that does not mean there are aspects of it where we could be better prepared. Ours is a resilient industry, one that can meet any challenge seen or unforeseen.
Reaching 200,000 suites is a wonderful accomplishment. Each one has helped contribute to a stronger industry and a more sustainable future. Every suite we add towards the next 200,000 will only fortify those efforts and help build stronger homes, communities, businesses, and a more sustainable nation.
