What is Smart Submetering?
Typically a multi-residential building has one bulk meter and landlords, property managers, or condo corporations are responsible for the building's bulk utility bill. Submetering measures utility consumption of each unit and bill residents for their own consumption.
This user-pay system helps residents realize the financial implications of their utility consumption and motivate them to drop it. Landlords, property managers, and condo corporations can increase operating income from reducing exposure to constant utility rate increases and uncontrolled in-suite utility consumption.
